In 2017, I began the daily ritual of writing down one sentence to summarize the day’s “highlight” as an effort to maintain regular journaling practice. While my personal practice has evolved over the years into something a little less regimented, I still try to make a point of engaging with awe on a regular basis. These “highlights” are often little moments that create momentary magic, but don’t often stick out in the big picture of long term memory - which is why I’ve loved to look back on them throughout the years.
“Awe and wonder are essential to the human experience. Wonder fuels our passion for exploration and learning, for curiosity and adventure. Researchers have found that awe “leads people to cooperate, share resources, and sacrifice for others” and causes them “to fully appreciate the value of others and see themselves more accurately, evoking humility.”
Brene Brown, Atlas of the Heart
As we’re getting ready to hit the road, I thought it would be fun to share some glimmers of the week with you all. This weekly addition will be a lighthearted snapshot in time, rather than some of the longer form personal essays that I’ll be sharing.

Kaleidoscope like morning sun dancing on my walls and a dog ever so slighly annoyed that we haven’t gone on our morning walk yet
The way the piercing white winter sun illuminates everything in it’s reach with a subtle icy blue glaze? Pure magic.
A mischievous little grin
Belly laughs with friends
Making it to Segnatore 15 minutes before their kitchen closes just in the nick of time to order (and devour) their Leek Gramigna aka the best pasta dish in Chicago (IYKYK)
Do you have a gratitude practice? I’d love to hear of any moments of joy from this past week in the comments!
